PARAMETRIC MODELING DESIGN

Project 1

Case Study: Taipei 101

Objective

In this project, I tried to rebuild Taipei 101 with Rhinoceros 6. Moreover, I added a small amount of re-design to make it more unique and special.

Introduction

Taipei 101, formerly Taipei Financial Center, office building in TaipeiTaiwan (Republic of China). Designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners, a local architectural firm, the skyscraper has 101 stories and reaches a height, including the spire, of 1,667 feet (508 metres). At the time of its official opening in October 2004, it was the world’s tallest building, having surpassed the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2007 it was exceeded by the Burj Khalifa, then being built in DubaiUnited Arab Emirates. While under construction, Taipei 101 was known as Taipei Financial Center.

Creating Parametric Form

1. Separate the upper building into 8 equal divided layers with "Horizontal Frames".

2. Create the shape of the first storey with "Divide Curve" and "Line".

3. Create "Loft" to close the space between two surfaces and form a shape of the storey.

4. In order to create the rest of 7 storeys, "Move" the first layer with seven different length vectors.

5. Create the lower part of the building with the same technique as storey.

6. For the upper part of the building, I sightly recreate it with pipeline shape to make it different as the original Taipei 101.

7. For the top of the building, I create it with polygon that segments can be changed.

Creating Physical-based Form

1. Recreate the storey with kangaroo2 and WeaverBird as shown below.
